Activist Boniface Mwangi is being held at the Nairobi Central Police Station following his arrest at the Central Business District (CBD) on Thursday afternoon.

Mwangi was among those picked up by police during a march to honour victims of the ongoing anti-government protests.

They were dressed in matching white t-shirts while carrying crosses bearing the names of the fallen protesters and marching through the CBD when masked officers accosted them and tossed Mwangi on the back of a waiting police vehicle.

The activist’s wife and journalist Njeri Mwangi has confirmed his arrest, adding that mothers of the protest victims who were also involved in the march were nabbed as well.

“They’ve taken Boni, and they’ve also taken the mothers of the victims who were shot. They’re all about impunity, they don’t care about who lives or dies,” Njeri told Africa Uncensored.

“Kenyans, you have to fight for yourselves, you have to come out; this watching around, makes us so vulnerable. Come out in large numbers, we must fight this together.”

Mwangi’s arrest follows the earlier arrest of protester Shadrack Kiprono who was picked up by police at the Java House on Kimathi Street.
