Absa Bank Kenya PLC Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Abdi Mohamed, has resigned from his position, bringing to an end a three-year tenure at the helm of the bank.

In a statement on Monday, the bank's Board of Directors announced that Mohamed's resignation will take effect on June 30. The Board said he is stepping down to pursue other career opportunities.

Mohamed assumed the role of Managing Director and CEO in May 2023, having previously served as Managing Director of Absa Bank Tanzania and Managing Executive for Retail and Business Banking for Absa's Africa Regional Operations.

His regional responsibilities saw him oversee operations across several African markets.

Over his 28-year banking career, Mohamed also held senior leadership positions within the Absa Group, including Chief Operating Officer and Retail and Business Banking Director in both Kenya and Zambia.

To ensure a seamless leadership transition, the Board has appointed the bank's current Chief Financial Officer, Yusuf Omari, as interim Managing Director and CEO with effect from July 1, 2026, subject to regulatory approvals.

The Board added that it has begun the process of recruiting a substantive Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.
