Incumbent Garissa Senator Abdulkadir Mohamed Haji has retained his seat after winning by a landslide in the August polls.

Haji who contested under a Jubilee party ticket won by a landslide garnering 72,383 votes followed by Mohamed Shale with 19,279.

Speaking after receiving his clearance certificate from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), Haji thanked the people of Garissa for giving him a second term at the helm of the county.

He also lauded the electoral commission in the region for spearheading the elections seamlessly and with transparency.

"It's a great honour to be elected as Senator of Garissa. I thank you for showing confidence in me and giving me an opportunity to serve you," he said.

"I thank the IEBC team in Garissa for the hard work they have done. They have shown us this time around that it is possible to have free elections in Garissa."

Haji took over as Senator after the death of his father Yusuf Haji in April, 2021 and was endorsed by Garissa council of elders.
