Harambee Starlets delivered a performance for the ages, dismantling Seychelles 11-0 at Ulinzi Sports Complex on Thursday to kick off their 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games qualifying campaign in emphatic style under new head coach Geoffrey ‘Solo’ Oduor.

The ruthless Kenyan lasses were utterly clinical from the first whistle, leaving the visitors shell-shocked in what is set to become one of the most one-sided matches in recent international history.

Valarie Nekesa, Aira Madalina, Enez Mango, Mercy Airo and Elizabeth Mideva all scored twice while Martha Amunyolet also found the net to round out the 11–0 rout in the first leg of the opening round of the African 2028 Olympic Games Qualifiers.

Starlets provided a genuine footballing education, tearing their visitors to shreds with a brand of clinical, high-energy football ahead of the second leg next Monday at the same venue.

The result signalled a fresh start for the Starlets under a new technical bench led by Oduor, who began his stint with the massive victory after replacing Beldine Odemba.

“Our players who got the chance today to represent us have represented us well, and we are very grateful for the work they have done. It's a good feeling, and I think we will continue with such play so that we can enjoy the results our girls will be able to give us and continue to raise the nation's flag high,” said Oduor in a post-match interview.

“Now we are looking at the second match, which will be on Monday, and winning it will be very important because we have goals to play in the next round as well," he added.

The victory also marked a welcome turnaround for the Starlets following a dismal Women’s Africa Cup of Nations run in Morocco, where they exited the group stage winless and goalless.
