Police in Rabai, Kilifi County, have impounded 9,460 Rolls of bhang with an estimated street value of more than Ksh.1 million while being transported to Mombasa from a neighbouring country.

The lorry ferrying the consignment was flagged down at Kokotoni area along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway on Saturday.

Addressing the media at Rabai police station, Kilifi County deputy police Commander Willy Simba said the police managed to arrest and detained the lorry’s driver who initially had attempted to escape.

Simba said the driver mentioned other culprits involved and the police are yet to arrest them, adding that an intensive crackdown along the highway is underway to nab all contraband goods being trafficked to the county and the borders.

The sacks of bhang were taken to Rabai police station awaiting court rule on disposal.

The lorry driver is, meanwhile, set to be arraigned in court on Monday, March 7, with to face charges of being in possession of the narcotic drugs illegally.
