A 15-year-old grade nine learner who was allegedly defiled by a matatu driver last year broke down in tears as she recounted her ordeal before an Eldoret court on Monday.

V.K told presiding magistrate Naima Kirui that the suspect, Michael Okwoko, had also threatened to kill her if she revealed the heinous act to her foster mother who she was staying.

The prosecution has lined up five key witnesses among the investigating officer and a medical doctor from Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) who examined the schoolgirl.

The learner recalled that the crew driver who plies the Eldoret-Chepkoilel route warned her to keep the incident a secret lest he kills her.

The learner said that she changed her clothes and started doing some chores, including cleaning a nearby shop, which is a few metres from their house, where her foster mother runs.

The accused is said to have removed his trousers and the victim’s pants before raping her. On the fateful evening, V.K was coming from school.

She was giving her evidence in chief in an incident where Okwoko is charged with defiling her in his house.

The accused, who stays in the plot with the victim’s family, committed the said offence on October 15, 2025 at Sinai area in Kimumu estate along the Eldoret-Iten highway in Uasin Gishu county.

Okwoko, who is out on bond, has since denied the defilement charge facing him.

The accused is said to have walked to Ainabtich police station to report that someone had broken into his house and tampered with his household properties after committing the act.

He was locked in custody after the victim’s foster mother arrived at the station to report a case against him related to defilement.
