The exercise, held on Saturday, October 10, 2026, saw participants plant a mixture of indigenous and fruit trees aimed at improving the school's environment, promoting biodiversity and supporting environmental conservation.
The event was held under the theme “Our Environment, Our Responsibility: Collective Action for Tree Growing and Environmental Stewardship,” highlighting the importance of partnerships in environmental protection and restoration.
Among those who participated were Deputy County Commissioner Jama Haji, Assistant County Commissioner Laura China, Kenya Forest Service representatives led by IP Solomon Nchoe, Kenya Wildlife Service's Samuel Kihara and KCB representative Vincent Sule.
Others included SCCIO John Kamau, SCCO Valeria Mabeya, IlBisil Girls Senior School Principal Gladys Mincha and school Board of Management member Jackline Saleiyan O.G.W., who is also the founder of A PACK A MONTH.
Chiefs, assistant chiefs and members of the sub-county security committee also took part in the exercise.
The initiative is expected to improve the school's landscape by providing shade, supporting biodiversity and creating a greener learning environment for students.
The fruit trees are also expected to contribute to food production once they mature, demonstrating the link between environmental conservation and sustainable resource use.
Beyond the planting exercise, the initiative seeks to encourage environmental responsibility among learners by providing opportunities for practical conservation activities, including watering, maintaining and monitoring the growth of trees.
The exercise aligns with Kenya's broader environmental restoration efforts, which encourage institutions, communities and other stakeholders to participate in tree-growing initiatives.
However, the long-term success of the project will depend on sustained maintenance, including regular watering and protection of the seedlings to ensure their survival.
