Three church leaders who were arrested in connection with an alleged exorcism ritual that left four children severely burnt with hot water at St. Abraham Israel Assemblies of God Church in Bondo Sub-County have been released on bond.

Gaudensia Juma, Steven Omondi and Clinton Obudho were arraigned before Bondo Resident Magistrate Christabel Maiyo and charged in connection with the burning of the minors.

The court heard that the offence was committed on diverse dates up to October 4, 2026, and the three denied the charges before the Resident Magistrate granted Juma a bond of Ksh.100,000 or cash bail of Ksh.50,000, while Omondi and Obudho were each released on a bond of Ksh.300,000.

The prosecution had sought to have the suspects detained, but the magistrate ruled that Juma could not be held in cells because she is elderly and unwell, while Obudho’s wife had recently given birth.

The case will be mentioned on October 26, 2026, and the Magistrate has directed that they all provide their contact details to the investigating officer, and that each of them shall ensure they attend every mention or hearing and make themselves available to the investigating officer whenever they are required.

She also cautioned the suspects against interfering with the victims or witnesses in that case in any way possible.
