3 die of suffocation while attempting to repair blocked sewer in Nairobi

Three people have died in the Satellite area on the outskirts of Nairobi city after sinking into a sewer line while attempting to repair it.

It is alleged that they ran out of oxygen while inside the trench.

Witnesses disclosed that the first person entered the blocked trench to repair it but got stuck inside. His colleague then went in to rescue him but also got stuck, and a third person's efforts to help his colleagues also bore no fruit.

The incident has angered Satellite residents, who explained that the sewer lines in the area frequently block, putting their lives at risk.

They are now calling upon the county government and the relevant authorities to ensure that the trenches are repaired and open manholes are covered, as they continue to pose a threat to their safety.
