Rescuers have successfully recovered the bodies of all three artisanal miners killed after a gold mine collapse in Ogago ‘A’ village, Bondo sub-county, Siaya County.

The recovery of the final victim, Erick Okode, on Sunday evening marked the end of a close to 48-hour recovery operation.

Okode had perished in the ill-fated gold mine collapse alongside his elder brother, Amos Okode, whose body was retrieved at around 1.00 pm on Sunday, and Brandon Juma, whose body was recovered Saturday night.

The three are among some 12 artisanal miners who had gone to their routine mining activities when the mining shaft collapsed and buried them alive on Friday.

The two-day search effort involved local volunteers and authorities working tirelessly to recover the bodies.

All bodies were moved to Bondo sub-county hospital mortuary as the community continues to mourn the loss.
