2-year-old girl drowns in a borehole in Kisumu

Tragedy struck the Umoja area of Manyatta slums in Kisumu after a two-year-old girl accidentally drowned in an open borehole while playing.

According to resident Christopher Odhiambo, neighbours raised the alarm after discovering that the child had fallen into the uncovered borehole.

Residents rushed to the scene in an attempt to rescue her, but despite their efforts, the girl was pronounced dead.

Her body was later moved to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) mortuary.

Following the incident, residents have appealed to landlords and property owners to ensure that all boreholes are properly covered and secured to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
