13-year-old boy swept away while crossing River Kuja

A 13-year-old boy has died after he was swept away while trying to cross River Kuja in Ndhiwa on Monday evening.

Boaz Odhiambo Ooko, a Class Seven pupil at Radienya Primary School was reportedly using a boat with five colleagues.

Area Chief Joseph Otieno Ogur said heavy tides overturned the boat.

Five people managed to swim towards the river bank at Manyuru Village, West Kabuoch Location.

According to Chief Ogur, the Class Seven boy could not swim and was swept away.

The search for the body is to resume on Wednesday with area leaders urging the government to send divers to assist in retrieving the body.
