A family from Gombe village in Bondo, Siaya County, is in mourning following the death of their 10-year-old son who was mauled to death by their neighbour’s dogs on Tuesday.

The minor is reported to have met his death when 12 dogs, which had been left unattended to freely roam a neighbour's compound, attacked him.

Confirming the incident, West Migwena Assistant Chief Benard Nyerere said the boy was in the company of a neighbour's son when the incident occurred.

The neighbour's son was allegedly responsible for letting the dogs roam free, he could however do nothing to save his friend when the dogs pounced on him, according to Mr. Nyerere.

The administrator added that the boy was devoured by the dogs as his helpless friend looked on.

The deceased's parents came to the realisation that something was amiss when they noticed that the neighbour's boy had returned to his family's homestead while their son was nowhere to be seen.

Worried, his mother went to look for him only to find his mangled remains lying beside a stream.

The boy's mother soon after reached out to Mr. Nyerere who contacted local police.

The officers moved the boy's body to Bondo sub-county hospital mortuary as investigations into the incident continue.

The Assistant Chief proceeded to advise residents rearing dogs to ensure that they properly lock up the canines to avoid similar incidents in future.
