The incident occurred at around 1.00 am on Monday, when a Nairobi-bound Grenline bus collided head-on with a Nakuru-bound Nanyuki cabs shuttle at Karai area.
Nine people died on the spot, eight from the shuttle and a small child from the bus.
As of Monday morning, ten persons were confirmed dead, and five were in critical condition. Thirty-five people, among them five children, were received at the Naivasha hospital.
The incident occurred at the spot where former Lugari Member of Parliament Cyrus Jirongo died weeks ago.
Confirming the incident, Wilson Sigei, the Naivasha Sub- County Police Commander, said the bus driver was overtaking when he encountered the saloon car.
“We are observing this stretch of the road as most drivers are speeding here,” said Sigei.
Witnesses say a salon car from Eagol Petrol station suddenly joined the highway, causing the bus driver to swerve the speeding bus, ramming into the saloon car head-on.
On their part, passengers aboard the bus said the driver was drowsy from Nakuru, and his driving skills were questionable.
Two of his conductors were prompted to keep him company to enhance his ability.
