10 bouncers from Kettle House Bar and Grill in Nairobi were on Wednesday charged with assault and selling shisha against the law.

It is alleged that on January 5, 2024, jointly with others not before court, being security guards of Kettle House Bar and Grill, they assaulted journalists and a team of NACADA officers, thereby causing them body harm.

The 10, who appeared before magistrate Gilbert Shikwe pleaded not guilty and were granted a Ksh.30,000 cash bail each.

Meanwhile the court has issued warrant of arrest against 10 others who failed to appear in court to take plea.

The matter will be mentioned on January 24, 2024.

In the January 5 incident, the bouncers are said to have assaulted journalists and NACADA officers, who were on a mission to crackdown the illegal sale of shisha at the establishment.

NACADA conducted the sting operation at the club to curb the smoking of shisha, which has been outlawed in Kenya since 2017 after the State banned the use, import, manufacture, distribution and promotion of the tobacco product.

21 suspects were arrested during the operation.
