Traders at Kapsabet market have protested against the county administration’s decision to relocate them to a new site near the Kapsabet slaughterhouse.
The traders alleged that procedures were not followed to ensure that they are properly relocated.
They said that municipal officials used force while relocating them and destroyed their goods.
The traders also said that the space at the new market is limited and that the site is not secure.
According to Leah Mwema, a trader, “We were told that the plans to move us was put on halt, but all of a sudden, we are being pushed out to a new location that is in a mess and we are opposed to that.”
She continued, “The place itself is congested and we can’t work there.”
Eunice Sang, another trader, said, “We have had enough. We have done business here for years, but now they want to get rid of us. We are being treated like garbage. We have families to feed but they are destroying our goods and this is not right.”
