Eldoret authorities have launched a crackdown on unhygienic eateries in the area, with one facility being closed for having a sewer pass through an area of the kitchen.

One of the things that blew the cover at the facility was that the waste was seeping into other shops.

One shop owner adjacent to the restaurant said his shop was perennially smelling of urine, which seeped into his shop and damaged some of his goods, which include suitcases.

"We are fed up with what is going on here because the waste has been seeping into our shops and releasing a bad smell, which even scares customers," one trader said.

Authorities have put eateries flouting rules on notice, saying that firm action will be taken against them.
