Utawala: Residents welcome road works on service lane

Speaking to Citizen Digital, locals said the move will help reduce congestion and allow easier access to estates.

“We have for a long time had challenges accessing the estates. With the construction of the service lane opposite AP, we will be able to move with ease,” Joab Mokaya, a resident, said.

At the same time, they called on traders to observe cleanliness by avoiding dumping.

“We urge those who operate their business around this area to stop dumping waste into the trenches,” a resident said.

Others however felt that the project was long overdue given their constant appeals for a refurbishment.

“The dirt road was inaccessible. We welcome the move to do road repairs, even though it has taken quite some time,” Grace Mumbi, a trader, noted.

A spot check by our reporter showed ongoing road works, that have changed the face of the area.

Locals said they hope that motorists will be more cautious as they approach the area to avoid any accidents.

“In the past, we have had cases where accidents occur in this area. This is because matatus pick and drop passengers, leaving little to no room for other road users,” John Onyango added.
