Motorists using Juja Farm road in Kiambu County want hazard demarcations erected around an unmarked trench next to the road.

The trench running parallel to the road is posing danger to both motorists and pedestrians using the road.

According to the residents, the recently tarmacked stretch has no road lights, and road markings, making it hazardous to drivers unfamiliar with the road, especially at night.

“This is dangerous. A slight distraction and you will veer off the road, even stepping on the crumbling edges of the road, which can be deadly,” said Stephen Muchemi, a motorist who uses the road often.

“As motorists and concerned residents, we want reflective barriers erected at this spot,” added Muchemi.

John Kariuki, a matatu driver plying the route noted that although they have learnt to manoeuvre around the spot, those unfamiliar with the road can end up in the trench especially at night.

“This is dangerous to even cyclists and pedestrians. This needs to be corrected fast to avert tragedy,” said Kariuki.
