Two suspects hospitalized after being subjected to mob justice in Mombasa
Police in Mombasa are investigating an incident in which two men were beaten and left in critical condition in Bombolulu, Nyali constituency.
Issa Swaleh and Bilal Hamza were attacked by an angry mob on Wednesday morning.
The two were accused of being part of a gang that has been stealing phones from members of the public before fleeing on motorcycles.
Police officers rushed to the scene and managed to rescue the two from the hands of the mob, who had intended to set the two on fire.
Swaleh and Hamza were rushed to Coast General Hospital in Mombasa, where they are receiving treatment.
According to a report from the Nyali police station, they sustained serious injuries. The motorcycle they were riding was set on fire by the mob.
Police have urged the public not to take the law into their own hands, but instead report criminals so that legal action can be taken in accordance with the law.
