Two middle-aged men were swept away by flash floods Thursday evening while attempting to cross a wooden bridge in Kiprichait, Bomet County.
Bomet County police commandant Edward Imbwaga said the men were walking along the waterway when they decided to cross a bridge that was partially submerged.
He added that one man slipped, and when the other tried to assist him, both were swept by the powerful currents.
Area assistant chief David Rotich noted that the two men were attending a funeral nearby and were unfamiliar with the local terrain.
Locals organized a search but were hindered by heavy rain and rising water levels, making it impossible to locate the bodies.
“This is a risky operation that must be approached with caution together with professional divers,” Rotich noted.
