Two men reportedly sustained serious injuries on Monday afternoon after a building they were demolishing collapsed on them.

The incident happened in Sagana, Ndia, within Kirinyaga county.

A vehicle said to belong to the owner of the building was also reportedly destroyed in the incident.

According to one of the residents Peter Wanjohi, a portion of the wall collapsed without warning, injuring the two labourers who had reportedly been contracted to bring down the building.

Wanjohi noted that the two were rushed to Sagana sub-county hospital, before being transferred to Murang'a hospital.

“A number of demolitions are taking place in the area to pave way for the construction of Kenol-Marwa highway which is currently ongoing,” said Wilson Ndirangu, also a resident of the town.

The 84-kilometre Kenol-Marua dual carriage road is divided into two sections; one part starting from Kenol to Sagana covering 48 kilometres, and a second part, a 36 kilometres stretch, starting from Sagana to Marua.
