‘Twende kazi’: Ex-Juja MP aspirant sentenced to community service for assaulting sister-in-law in property dispute

Eunice Wanjiru Mugo.

In what appears to be a twist of fate, Former Juja MP aspirant, Eunice Wanjiru Mugo, whose slogan during her election campaigns was ‘twende kazi’ will be serving 18 months of community service at a chief’s camp in the constituency, following her being charged in an assault case.

Mugo was charged with assaulting and insulting her elder sister-in-law, Njeri Waithaka, over a property ownership dispute.

The incident occurred last year, resulting in Eunice spending three weeks in Thika prison remand before her case was heard and determined at Thika Law Courts by Magistrate Oscar Wanyaga.

During the trial, it was revealed that Eunice had physically and verbally abused Njeri, who is almost twice her age.

The magistrate emphasized the importance of respecting elders and community harmony in his sentencing.

Wanjiru, who had previously contested for the MP seat in Juja twice without success, expressed remorse over her actions.

Njeri, the victim of the assault, expressed satisfaction with the court's decision, stating that justice had been served.
