Trans Nzoia accident leaves one dead, two serious injured

One person died on Monday, while two others sustained serious injuries after a car they were travelling in lost control at the Sabwani bridge, along the Lessos-Namanjala road in Trans Nzoia, and plunged into the river.

Two other occupants of the car sustained serious injuries in the accident – and had to be rushed to hospital by Good Samaritans.

According to witnesses, the car which appeared to have been speeding lost control and plunged into the raging river just at the bridge point.

Speaking about the incident, village elder Susan Naliaka said the accident may have been as a result of bad road.

“I arrived to find the vehicle completely submerged. So, we called the police to the scene immediately we received word about the accident,” said Naliaka.

The village elder identified the deceased as Everline Nasimiyu who was heading to Kitali market to get vegetables for her stall.

Residents now want guardrails erected on the side of the bridge to prevent motorists or pedestrians from falling into the river.

The bodies of the deceased have been taken to Kitale Level 4 hospital.
