Tigania: Body of 17-year-old boy who drowned in river retrieved

The body of 17-year-old boy who drowned in River Kiare, Athwana ward, inTigania, was retrieved on Saturday.

The Form Two boy drowned on Friday evening, when swimming in the river with friends.

His colleagues raised an alarm after he disappeared in deep waters. 

Meru county Kenya Red Cross coordinator, Malcom Kanyoko, said the organization has retrieved 10 bodies of persons who have drowned in the river since the El nino rains began.

Area MCA Jim Muchui faulted the county government for lack of divers to carry out rescue missions.

The Njuri Ncheke Council of Elders and other community leaders have urged parents to closely monitor their children to avert drowning cases during the El Nino period.
