Tharaka Nithi families seek justice after three men kidnapped, bodies found dumped

A somber mood continues to dwell in Ntoroni Village, Tharaka Nithi County, as relatives and friends of three families seek justice after their kin were allegedly kidnapped then killed last month.

Only two bodies have been recovered so far and the families are still searching for one body.

The three slain traders were said to have been travelling on a motorbike on their way to Kina to purchase livestock when they were attacked and killed.

Speaking to Wananchi Reporting, Peter Nyaga, a fellow trader, said, “I was also traveling to Kina and I arrived earlier than them on Thursday. I got a call on Saturday at around 10 a.m. informing me that there were people who had been murdered. When I got to the scene, I saw only two bodies but three sets of clothes.”

“Both bodies had been devoured by hyenas, such that I could only recognize them with the clothes they had.”

The remains were taken to Maua Hospital Mortuary while the clothes were as police exhibits.

The families are demanding justice for their loved ones.

Janet Kayenda, a resident, said, “We are pleading with the government to step in and help us find justice for these men as the widows and children are in pain and are now left stranded as the people they depended on for livelihood are no more.”

The bodies of the two are still at Maua Hospital Mortuary in Meru County.

The families plan to bury their loved ones on Saturday.
