Suspected gangster arrested in Meru, AK-47 rifle recovered

Police in Meru County have arrested a suspected gangster believed to be behind a series of robberies.

The suspect, 24-year-old Kenneth Mwingirwa is linked to several crimes in the region.

Tigania East sub-county police commander Emmanuel Kiplagat said the suspect was in possession of an AK-47 rifle, 9 rounds of ammunition and one magazine.

"We believe that the suspect is part of a gang thas been terrorizing residents of Lanyiruu, Mabuurua, Muthara market and its environs," Kiplagat said.

Police called on members of the public to volunteer information that will help lead to more arrests.

"The gang has been stealing cattle, breaking into shops and stealing motorbikes. We appeal to Kenyans to provide any information that will assist in our investigations," police added.
