Residents of Chepilat in Bomet county have held demonstrations to protest against the alarming cases of defilement and sodomy in the area.

In the latest incident, a 12-year-old girl was defiled and sodomized by a suspect who is still at large.

Locals said they will take the law into their own hands if the authorities fail to act and enhance security.

Lydia Chepng'etich, a resident and human rights defender, said, "We cannot allow these cases to continue. In the case of the young girl, she is in a terrible state and she is now in a safe house. Action must be taken against the perpetrators."

Pastor Kevin Kiplang'at said that the community will stand with the victim's family and added that the church will not be condoned.

"We are not going to go the way of settling matters and letting culprits go scot-free. Justice must be served," he said.
She continued, "We are ending up raising a very bitter generation because of the things that have been done to them. These children are being exposed to heinous and inhumane acts and it must stop."

Protesters said they will not allow the perpetrators to go scott-free and will continue protesting until they are brought to book.
