Siaya: Families left out in the cold as inferno destroys homes

More than 20 families were forced to spend Monday night in the cold after a fire destroyed their houses in Southlands, on the outskirts of Siaya.

There were no injuries.

According to witnesses, the power went out for a short time at around 3 am and when it came back, it was accompanied by an explosion, and fire razed houses, spreading fast.

A fire engine arrived at the scene a while after, however, several houses had been destroyed.

Elias Otoyo, a witness, said, “The fire engine did not take long to come, however,  a lot of damage had already been done.”
