Residents of Cheptororiet village, Seretut Ward, Belgut constituency, were left in shock after a suspected thief was electrocuted as he attempted to vandalize an electricity transformer supplying power to the village and its environs.

Villagers found the man's body lying underneath the transformer.

They said the man was a notorious thief who lived near Seretut trading centre, before relocating to Kapsuser trading centre in the neighboring Kapsuser Ward.

"He used to terrorise locals with his other accomplices as they vandalised electricity lines and stole copper wires," one villager said.

The man was being sought after stealing electricity wires in the neighboring Kapchereren area.

Another suspect, who is believed to have been working closely with the suspect, was arrested after stealing electricity copper wires at a secondary school a week ago.

Police officers took the body to Kericho County Referral Hospital mortuary pending investigations.
