Ruiru hospital rehabilitates ‘happy rooms’ after public outcry
Patients visiting Ruiru sub-county hospital in Kiambu county can now breathe a sigh after the county government rehabilitated its toilets.
Just last month, Wananchi Reporting ran a story highlighting the horrendous state of the hospital’s pit latrines.
According to the residents, the latrines had for months become an eyesore; forcing patients and visitors to the facility to visit nearby bars, hotels or churches to relieve themselves.
The poor state of the pit latrines blotted the facility at a time when it is undergoing massive development in readiness for its elevation to a Level 5 Hospital.
A staff member told Wananchi Reporting that: “After the problem was highlighted, action was taken. The toilets are now clean, usable and our cleaners and patients will keep them tidy.”
The hospital, according to the Kiambu government, serves over 600 patients every day. The bed capacity was increased in 2022 from 46 to 200 beds.
