Chaos erupted in Githogoro village, near Runda Estate in Nairobi, on Friday afternoon as angry residents protested against a prolonged three-month power outage.

Tensions escalated when Kenya Power officials arrived to remove transformers, a move that further infuriated the locals.

Residents linked the power blackout to deliberate negligence and accused KPLC of failing to address their concerns.

However, the officials denied sabotage, citing routine maintenance activities.

The protests turned violent as demonstrators stoned KPLC vehicles, demanding immediate restoration of electricity.

The standoff intensified as residents blocked roads, preventing KPLC vehicles from leaving until a new transformer was delivered.

Power was restored in parts of the village, however other parts remain in darkness, with the existing transformer being faulty.

Local authorities, including the area chief and Runda police officers finally restored order and cautioned residents against taking the law into their own hands.
