Residents of Ruiru cry out after spending three days in darkness
Some residents of Ruiru are raising concern after going without electricity for three days.
According the residents, life has become unbearable without electricity in their houses and businesses.
Some of the affected areas include Kihunguro, Murera, Kimbo, and other surrounding areas.
“I have not been able to charge my phone, iron my clothes or watch television because we don’t have electricity,” James Macharia, a resident of Murera told Wananchi Reporting.
“Our foodstuffs have gone bad because we don’t have electricity in the house,” he added.
Residents told Wananchi Reporting that the problem began after an electric pole fell on Tuesday following a heavy downpour.
They said they were yet to officially notify the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) about the situation.
“As residents we are asking Kenya Power to come and sort the problem quickly to end our suffering,” said Macharia.
Some of the people who work from home said their work has been affected greatly – and have had to move to other places to complete urgent work assignment.
Mary Wambui, also a resident or Ruiru, told Wananchi Reporting that her life has not been smooth these past three days.
“I had just done my bulk shopping and put most of the food in the freezer. Then boom! The lights are gone. My worry is why it’s taking this long to fix this small problem!” said Wambui.
Adding that: “People cannot reach me on phone because I ran out of charge. I had at some point to go to a friend’s place in a different estate to charge my phone.”
Many businesses have also been affected, with some forced to use generators.
The residents are hoping that those concerned will find a solution soonest.
