Questions emerge over appointments in Baringo county

Members of the County Service Board at a meeting in Baringo.

The Baringo Public Service Board has been taken to task to explain its recruitment process as a section of MCAs and residents accuse it of questionable practices.

These accusations surfaced during the Baringo Leadership Summit, which aims to strengthen leadership and improve governance.

Mogotio MCA Mark Sialo questioned why some employees who worked under the previous county leadership had their terms terminated or were placed on contract, while others had permanent and pensionable terms.

There were also accusations of some workers having forged certificates, and soliciting of funds to secure jobs.

In response, Samson Kibii, Secretary to the Board, denied the accusations, adding some board members were being impersonated and that his Facebook account was hacked. He urged anyone who has been a victim of con artists to report it.

“Anyone found guilty of malpractices will be held to account,” he said.

Kibii admitted there was pressure from the political class to favor their candidates during shortlisting and called for collective responsibility in maintaining integrity.

Regarding the issue of favoritism in employment, Kibii stated they are investigating four cases.

The summit concludes today (Friday).
