Investigations have begun in Busia following the mysterious death of a Form Two student, whose body was discovered by neighbours with injuries.

Daniel Barasa, a brother to the deceased's father, said there have been conflicting reports about what actually happened to the 17-year-old girl, adding that the first report they received was that the girl was bitten by a snake.

However, upon further investigations, Barasa said that he was later informed by the girl's sister that she left her house on Christmas Day to go to church without asking for permission to do so and upon her return, she was caned and was rushed to hospital but died while receiving treatment.

"We don't understand what happened between the girl returning from church and her dying and what we want is justice. The mother, who was stays with the girl, needs to come out clean and say what happened," he said.

Anthony Wafula, the girl's uncle, said, "We found the body in bad shape and reported the matter to the police, who referred us to the DCI. We want justice served."

The child's mother was being held as a suspect, however, Wafula said that she was released on bail.

Emmanuel Nakitare, the father of the deceased girl, said, "What I have seen has distressed me. My daughter was tortured and I want answers. The body has bruises and her head has injuries."

Nakitare said he does not live with his deceased daughter's child and only received a report from neighbours that she had died.
