A probe has been launched after a Form two student at a school in Migori County is suspected to have died by suicide hours after her mother asked her to produce her school report card.
The body of the student aged 17 years was found dangling from a tree at a neighbour’s farm in Milimani village, Lower Magungu sub location, Nyatike sub county.
The deceased's uncle on Thursday said the girl left home the previous night after the mother asked her to produce a report card and she never returned home, prompting her family members to search for her.
Her body was found at a neighbour’s farm in the morning.
The uncle said the deceased had told her mother that she had forgotten her report card in school, however, her mother later found it in her schoolbag.
Lower Magungu sub location Assistant chief George Owino said it appeared the girl was afraid she hadn’t performed well.
The body was taken to Sori Lakeside mortuary pending an autopsy.
