A sombre mood swept through Shitoto Girls Secondary in Mumias East, Kakamega County after their principal collapsed and died on her way to school.
Speaking to Citizen Digital her son Edgar Akwabi said the late Lily Mbati, who was diabetic, was in good spirits the previous night.
"I spoke to mum on the phone and encouraged her to take her medication as usual, to which she replied in the affirmative," Akwabi said.
He would later be called in the morning by neighbors who informed him that his mother had collapsed on her way to work.
Mbati's deputy Ruth Musafu on her part remembered her late boss as a reliable, dedicated servant leader who loved teaching.
"We are all going to miss her dearly. We pray for grace as we mourn our beloved principal," Musafu said.
The late Mbati served as the school's only Home Science teacher. The institution has called on the Ministry of Education to look into the matter as they prepare for national examinations.
The body of the deceased was taken to St Mary's Mission Hospital Mortuary.
