Many of his followers claim they feel like orphaned calves.
Gachathi wa Thuo’s legendary vigour and husky voice that kept many entertained over the years, will now be focussed on serving God, according to his recent communication.
The Gatanga, Murang’a born musician said he has quit the secular world after more than a decade rousing revellers and fans with his beautifully composed songs.
After weeks missing from major shows, Gachathi of the hit songs Perry, Kiura Ruga (frog escape), Njeri Gitutha (Njeri the batterer) and others dropped the bombshell last week.
The last time he performed mugithi was at a pub in Githurai 44 on February 10.
“Dear fans and supporters, from today March 15 henceforth, I have made a decision to shift. My people, I have been with you since 2009 when my musical journey kicked off. I have realised that I have not had a good relationship with my God. I have served and entertained people in clubs for 15 years. It’s high time I serve my God as Jesus Christ Command” Gachathi wrote to his fans.
In an interview at a local station, the singer said he has stopped paying attention to material things and some friendships to let God use him.
In 2018, celebrated singer Kamande wa Kioi made a similar move after he got seriously sick and was hospitalised. Wa Kioi, however, made an about-turn barely four years later and continued composing secular tracks.
