Photos: Hundreds troop to Mt Kenya for annual peace prayers

Hundreds of pilgrims from across the country trooped to Mt Kenya on Tuesday for annual peace prayers.

They convened at Samson Corner in Kirinyaga county and started the journey at around 7am.

According Samuel Kamitha, the Gikuyu and Mumbi Cultural Museum Director General, and event organiser, the  annual prayers seek divine intervention for the country.

This year, Kamitha says the prayers will be focused on thanksgiving after peaceful elections in August. 

He said prayers will be made for peace, economic prosperity and good health for Kenyans and Head of State William Ruto.

Kamitha was accompanied by other clerics, including some from other faiths.

Some of the pilgrims wore blue clothes, tied blue ribbons on their vehicles and women wore blue head scarfs.

Kamitha said the communities involved had a common culture, beliefs and to some extent traditions which should be exercised to live in harmony.

He said Mt Kenya has a rich history that touches on all African countries, stating that the mountain is believed to once have hosted the Holy covenant.

Some of the participants said that they usually turn up in large number since they believe in the power of the prayers held every December 27.
