Passengers narrowly escape death after truck rams into matatu in Bureti

Several passengers escaped death narrowly on Thursday night after a canter transporting tea to Kapkatet Tea Factory lost control and rammed into a matatu.

The accident occurred at Kaptolony area along the busy Kapkatet–Litein highway in Bureti Sub-county, Kericho County.

"The truck lost control, started swerving before ramming into the matatu which was ferrying passengers,"  John Kirui said.

According to witnesses, the impact caused a brief traffic snarl-up, but no fatalities were reported.

Those who sustained minor injuries were rushed to Kapkatet Sub-County Hospital and Litein Mission Hospital for treatment.

Police officers responded and oversaw the clearance of the scene.
Both damaged vehicles were later towed away to Liein Police station yard normal traffic flow was restored.

Police have commenced investigations and the concerned residents have called for improved road safety measures along the stretch, which has recently seen an uptick in accidents.
