Overseas job recruiters camp in Machakos as hunt for skilled manpower continues
As the government continues to preach the gospel of the exportation
of labour to foreign nations, stakeholders in the training sector and human
resource companies are urging the Kenyan youth to be skill-oriented to secure
employment.
Speaking at Mumbuni Technical Training College in Machakos
while hosting a recruitment drive for skilled electricians and
plumbers, the institution’s director, Collins Kaloki said TVET centres are
a fertile breeding ground for skilled manpower that is in high demand in
developed countries.
The recruitment drive targeted jobs in the Gulf, specifically
in Dubai and the United Arab Emirates.
“Technical Training Institutions are playing a critical role
in processing and supplying highly skilled manpower required to drive global
economies and I am proud that Mumbuni Technical Training College is at the
centre of this progressive initiative of training professionals to not only
meet the domestic labour market but also service the international space,” said
Kaloki.
Kaloki noted that technical colleges, through the assistance
of the government, are actively working closely with human resource experts and
other industry players to design and operationalize market-driven courses that
offer solutions to modern-day trends.
Officials from the Global Face Human Resources agency pitched
camp at the institution to carry out interviews for dozens of youth who turned
out to try their luck in securing employment in the leading global business
destination.
“As a recruitment agency, we are working closely with the
Government and training institutions to link up Kenyan professionals willing to
work abroad with employers from all over the world. The demand for skilled
workers is quite huge out there and we encourage qualified Kenyans to take
advantage of the current window to apply,” said Nicole Juma, a senior official
with Global Face Human Resources agency.
Last year, Labor Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua launched the
national jobs recruitment drive where he assured Kenyans seeking employment
outside the country of government support in the processing of various travel
documents and work permits.
“It doesn’t matter whether you have a passport or not. As
Government, we have developed an elaborate plan to make sure Kenyans being
recruited to work overseas are processed with speed and efficiency,” Dr Mutua said
then.
