Over 1,800 human resource professionals across Kenya have begun sitting for the April 2025 cycle of national Human Resource (HR) certification exams, marking a significant milestone for the profession.
The examinations — the Certified Human Resource Professional (CHRP) and Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) Diploma and Certificate in HR — officially kicked off on Wednesday, April 9, and will run through April 16.
This year’s April sitting is historic, being the first under HRMPEB’s newly introduced tri-annual exam calendar.
Moving forward, HR certification exams will be held three times a year — in April, August, and December — a strategic shift aimed at increasing accessibility and flexibility for aspiring HR practitioners.
Candidates are sitting for the exams at various centres across the country, including Nairobi, Kisumu, Eldoret, Mombasa, Kakamega, Thika, Nanyuki, Nyandarua, and Nakuru.
HRMPEB CEO Margaret Nguu expressed optimism about the future of the profession, citing the positive response to the April exams.
“It’s exciting to see the rise in numbers for our CHRP and CBET examinations, especially as this is the first time we are offering exams in April,” she told Citizen News.
“As the body mandated by an Act of Parliament to examine and certify HR professionals, this marks a milestone that will shape the future of HR in Kenya and even beyond our borders.”
The board says the new exam schedule will provide more opportunities for professionals to hone their skills, align with global standards, and stay competitive in an evolving workforce.
