One injured in an accident in Mwea, Kirinyaga County

One person is nursing injuries following an accident in Ngurubani town, Mwea, Kirinyaga County.

The accident happened after a lorry collided with a boda boda, with residents dashing to assist a middle-aged man who was trapped under the lorry.

According to the residents, led by Peter Thuku, the boda boda rider was heading towards the Mwea rice mills from ACK Church Road when the lorry, which was transporting sand, struck him from behind.

After approximately 30 minutes, the rider was rushed to a local private hospital with serious injuries.

Meanwhile, the lorry driver fled the scene, and traffic police subsequently towed the lorry to Wang'uru police station.

"The lorry is currently at Wanguru police station as we search for the driver," traffic police officers stated.

Residents have called on the authorities to erect speed bumps along the road, citing safety concerns as several people have lost their lives in similar incidents.

"Just the other day, two children lost their lives, and one was seriously injured. Something needs to be done," Peter Thuku emphasized.
