Moyale: Three hospitalized after hyena attack in Sololo

Residents in Sololo in Moyale have called on the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) to address the human-wildlife conflict in the area.

According to residents, wild animals have been terrorizing them at their homes.

Notorious among the wild animals are marauding hyenas which have been spotted meters away from homesteads.

Locals are bearing the brunt, with some nursing serious injuries following attacks by hyenas.

Three people are undergoing treatment at Sololo Hospital following a hyena attack at Uran area in Marsabit County.

“The three were attacked by a hyena while on their way home at around 7 p.m.,” a resident said.

Locals retaliated, killing the hyena before setting it on fire.

Cases of human-wildlife conflicts are on the rise in the area with some calling for financial compensation, use of physical barriers, and translocation interventions.
