Motorists complain about lack of street lights along Kenyatta Avenue

Motorists in Nairobi have urged the relevant authorities to set up street lights along Kenyatta Avenue.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, public service vehicle (PSV) operators decried the lack of proper lighting on the road.

According to PSV operators, plying the busy route at night is a risky affair. Road users added that they also risk being mugged at night.

“When you exit the Kenyatta Avenue roundabout towards Hurlingham, the road becomes darker and darker,” Dennis Ochieng, a matatu driver, said.

The glare from oncoming traffic does little to help, as it further compounds the situation.

Following this, road users have called on the county administration to help address the issue.

“This road serves a lot of motorists. It connects other roads leading to various destinations, hence its importance,” John Makau, a lorry driver, added.

Besides the poor lighting, road users also complained of concrete weight blocks along the route.

“Some motorists end up hitting the concrete blocks at night. It takes time before they are moved back to position,” said Michael Njuguna.

He added that the blocks can be pushed smack in the middle of the road during accidents, endangering the lives of road users.
