Molo farmers resort to giving cattle their harvest as produce rots in farms

Farmers in a village in Molo Sub-county are counting losses as their produce has been rotting due to lack of market.
A visit to several farms by Wananchi Reporting established that many farmers have been left with nothing to do, but watch as their hard work reduced to waste.
John Muigai Kamau, a farmer, had planted cabbages on one-and-a-half acres, but was forced to convert his produce to animal feeds.
Another farmer, Mercy Wanini, faced a similar situation, with her granary filled with cabbages and carrots. She said she has opted to turn the produced into feeds for her cows since it has no market.
The farmers urged the government to put in place proper mechanisms for buying their produce.
The scenario of food wastage comes at a time when over 20 counties in the country are facing drought and starvation due to lack of food and water.
