Migori: Residents in Awendo decry lack of electricity in the area

Residents of Ulanda village in Awendo, Migori Sub County have decried the power outage that has affected the region for the past six months.

The residents, led by Kennedy Rairo said the power outage has led to rising cases of insecurity in the area, urging Kenya Power to intervene.

Rairo said Kenya Power engineers removed the transformer six months ago with a promise to replace it, but unfortunately, they have not received a replacement, and now the entire village is in darkness.

Besides South Sakwa Ward, the power outage has also affected Gogo area in Uriri Sub County.

"We have been experiencing unstable power supply for a long time now. It has become a perennial issue," George Otieno, a resident, said.

Locals added that the power outage has affected several power-dependent economic activities in the region.

"We have been visiting the Kenya Power offices seeking assistance but our issues have not been addressed," residents added.
