Residents in Migori county have decried the perennial water shortage, which has forced them to walk long distances to fetch water from rivers and the few available wells.

County Water officer, Rhoda Nchagwa, said the department is repairing the old pump while it waits for a new one that has been ordered

“We are addressing the water shortage and doing all we can to resolve it as quickly as possible. We had a breakdown of the water pumps, specifically from Oyani, which is our main supply area,” she said.

Nchagwa also said the county is working to settle Ksh. 11 million arrears owed to Kenya Power, once the county receives its allocations from the national government.

The chairman of the board of the Migori County Water and Sanitation Company, John Abuya, said the board is working closely with the Migori county government to address water shortage.
