Residents of Sori in Nyatike West Sub-County, Migori County, have expressed growing fears over the increasing cases of insecurity in the area.
The community's worries are compounded by allegations that local residents are not fully supporting security efforts to combat crime, according to security officers.
Some locals allege the presence of a theft syndicate operating within the region, responsible for a surge in robberies that have left residents living in fear.
The residents reported frequent break-ins into business premises in Sori town and surrounding areas, calling for urgent action from security agencies to restore safety.
Nyatike West Sub-County Deputy County Commissioner Peter Nthiong’o acknowledged the security challenges facing Sori.
He stated that security personnel have been actively working to address the issue, resulting in the arrest and prosecution of several suspects.
However, he noted that some suspects have been released on bond, often due to intervention by their family members.
He urged residents to collaborate with security officers in order to eradicate criminal gangs from the region.
