Migori: Residents camp at construction site hoping to strike gold

One resident who spoke to Wananchi Reporting claimed he struck gold, “I filled a bucket with gold I had collected and sold it for seven thousand shillings which helped me tremendously , God has given us wealth to help us because there used to be a market here but we didn't know that there was wealth here until the Chinese came and dug and we realized it was gold.”

Contractors said they are helpless against the residents who refuse to budge as they hope to strike gold and change their fortunes.

One said, “If it means someone would have to sleep here overnight to get something small then so be it.”
